Vehicle Value Feeler

I went to an electrical class for work.

Lots of movies of: tree trimmers, bucket trucks, stupid homeowners, TV crews with sattelite booms, people on drugs, house movers "moving" lines, etc.

Many were quite graphic.

I never liked working around high voltage, and this class didnt change my mind.

Heck, just around the corner from me, someone got fried delivering a load of blocks.

Last summer a neighbor backed into a pole and knocked the power line off the house across the street. I yelled for him to "dont touch that line, but he did. Fortunatly for him, the house is only 2-3 years old, and the insulation is still intact on the line. Nearly pooped myself when he picked up the LIVE line. :{

When I did landscape install the "A-Team" as the older, more experienced (and cockier) guys, called themselves, was on a job doing a tiered flagstone patio. The tiers were made from railroad ties on end, like a retaining wall.

I was to help them on this job. Where one existing tie wall stopped, they dug down to level it out for the patio. There was a bundle of 6 lines, side by side. I saw gouge marks in them from the pick and shovels. I almost got promoted that day ;)

Power Lines

A guy on my wheelchair basketball team lost his leg in a power line incident. From what my teammates said it was a pretty bad accident.

That's scary. Electricity is scary. I cut my extension cord in half one time with my hedge trimmer. I don't do yard work anymore so, hopefully I'm safe from that hazard now.

I wonder how long that truck was acting as a capacitor? Or fuse? Or whatever it was acting as.

The boss/cousin was trimming a pine tree near a set of high tension wires and the branch fell out and down instead of down right into a set of wires and he got shocked pretty good!! hes now got 2 huge black/blue spots from his gaffs on his shins. Now were in the boom/bucket truck with a fiberglass boom so it makes us both a little easier!!

He complained of a chest pain/left arm being numb this year (few years after the accident) and went in and they said he had a hart murrmer (sp) from the shock

The local line workers stop and poke fun at our less stressful job... . but somehow a 70' tree top over a house on the end of a boom isnt stressful? (when the line grabs and yanks the buckets down a couple feet... . I tend to get uneasy haha) but we just brag since out truck is bigger :D (pics in profile)

Trim safe!

When I was in the electrical school, there were some guys that had the same thing happen.

They were told by Dr's that they can develope any type of problems, cancer, tumors, even die at any time since being exposed by high voltage.

Couldnt pay me enough to do that type of work... ... ... ... .

A co-worker of mine used to do seamless gutter installation on homes. He put a piece of gutter into the power line and it zapped him, he fell off the ladder from 2nd story and the electricity burned a hole through the palm of his hand. They took skin off his butt to graft it. He was very lucky. The shock didnt get him, the fall could have.
