Changed oil Friday and after 700 miles and a trip to the hill country I have oil on the driveway. Sure nuff the oil plug is leaking. I guess I need to find the number and give them a call. I change my own and know it is not stripped or crossthreaded. Man, I am glad I caught this. Now I have to drain clean oil out to put in another. Just glad I caught it.

Which super plug? The brand new one with the built in magnet? Or the older version with the thick flange but no magnet?

I have the one with the magnet built in. I think the gasket has gone bad. I like the idea of the magnet and the wrench head to drain the oil but I can't stand this!

I have had the SuperPlug for a number of oil changes and the gasket has help up fine.

Just curious, did you try to tighten it? Last time I changed my oil the drian plug had worked itself a little loose in 3000 miles and wasn't very tight. It wasn't leaking, but it definitely wasn't as tight as it should have been.

Yeah, you need to worry about getting all your oil out. I also dislike anything brass hanging low on my truck. Brass is brittle and a dont like the thought of something flying up under the truck and breaking my drain valve off. I had a friend who had a Fumoto brass finger touch drain valve on his mustang and when he ran over a piece of plywood it flew up and snapped the drain valve off and almost tore out his fuel lines.

The 30 seconds it takes to remove and then replace the drain plug is fine with me since i know i got all the oil out and i know that the steel plug is so strong that the entire oil pan would rip out before the plug did. And gaskets? i can afford 30c every oil change. Just my 2c

Stock plug works fine for me.

Here's a trick for getting the plug off to clean/replace the gasket without losing a drop of oil, it's not a joke. Just connect a shop or regular vacuum cleaner up to your oil fill hole, the vacuum keeps the oil from coming out, none goes in the vac. Block off the blowby tube, screwdriver works. Don't let your wife catch you if you borrow her vac and never do it with a gasser. Used gasser oil is full of fumes that can ignite and blow your wife's vac up...

Illflem, I might have to try that idea. I have the stock plug in the side pouch of the door. I may just put it in till I get teh gasket replaced. I should have put in the factory one in as I noticed it looked a little funny on the install of it this time. I am sure it is tight. I need to buy a torque wrench and find the spec on the tightness pressure it calls for. Heck I don't even have an old innertube to make a new one. (Just kidding, I can get a new one)

That would be great trying to explain to the wife why her vacum was in 1,000 pieces all over the driveway. I dont think she would buy that story. :D

Problem with the carwash is those durn things always turn off before you finish. Hate for you to get a face full.

I've never used a torque wrench with a drain plug. it just isn't that critical. Just get it tight without reefing on it. An 8" long ratchet will keep you from over torqueing.

I bought the super plug without the magnet. But I got it to replace the original plug if/when it ever breaks (fractures) when I am installing the OEM plug after an oil change. It's a backup. I will continue to use the OEM plug until/or if the super plug is needed. Don't fix it if it ain't broken, but alway be prepared :)

Q. So what you up to darling, going to vacuum my car?

A. Uh ... no.

Q. What are you doing?

A. Going to fix an oil leak on the truck.

... you fill in the blanks ...

Q. Is your shotgun loaded?

Q. Is your life insurance up to date?

almost forgot, hope it's not too late

Block off the blowby tube to keep the vacuum up, a screwdriver works. Somebody sure would have hated me for that one.

Talked to the owner of the company. He regretted the inconvenience and is sending me a couple of new washers. He also added the new washers are improved over the previous ones. Reckon that is all a fellow can ask for. He said they will be here the next day.

The washer that came with my Super plug was the same that you buy from DC for the OEM plug. Metal on one side rubber on the other (the metal side goes toward the plug the rubber side goes toward the pan). Was yours different?

I am almost certain it was different from the oem washer on the plug. Will find out tomorrow when I put the new one on. I started to use the oem washer from that plug but didn't know if it was the same or not. Thanks for the info.
