well,it was about time to drain the water from fuel filter yesteday. Opended hood, lifted drain lever, no water (thats good) push lever down, close hood, start engine. went in house while truck was warming up for about 5 min. Came out strong smell of diesel. looked under truck and fuel was pouring down driveway. the drain valve had stuck open! a couple of shots of wd-40 and it closed. most of the fuel went down the expansion crack in the drive. Well a least i won't have any weeds growing there this summer.

That is a very common problem. When you drain the water, make sure that you push down the valve to close it.

Yep, Learned this Lesson when I change out the L/P and filter :{ Did not run the truck, but cycled the Ignition to get the L/P to run, Saw the leak under the truck while out of the cab, I'm sure I will have a nice soft spot in driveway this spring :D Moose

Water Drain

Where is this lever located to drain the water from the fuel filter housing? I am new to the 24v 2001 5-speed.

My 2000 did this to me once also. I made it about 5 miles down the road when I came in to some road construction and the flag man yelled at me to pull over! I did and WOW! Whole underside of truck of coated in diesel. Not sure HOW I didn't smell it! :)

Guess I must have had a good LP because it ran just as well leaking fuel as it did normally!

same here I checked it at the shop and started pulling out and left a trail about 100 feet to my parking spot. had to mop it all up. the non diesel guys cryed about the smell all day.

Mine stuck on me too, I fussed at the dealership and they replaced it. I got the old one and rebuilt it, now it resides next to the spare LP and filters.
