One of those naggy things... How come when I want to turn on the cargo light, I must turn on the interior dome light as well? We all know to activate the cargo light we use the "dial" on the dashboard until we get to the last three clicks; first max dashboard, second dome light, third cargo light. My problem is that when I'm backing up at night to connect to my 5th wheel, I want to turn on the cargo light to get better vision, unfortunately, the dome light is on also and causes glare, making it impossible to see.

Am I the only one whose seen this? Maybe there's a simple fix I'm unaware of.

You mite do a search on cargo light. There was talk about changing the wires on the switch to turn the cargo light on before the dome light.

I noticed it the first time I wanted to check my motorcycle in the bed of my truck at night from inside the cab. Couldn't see anything with the dome light on.

Just as a side note, and you may already know this, the first notch, what you refer to as the, "max dashboard," is actually a position for times when you turn on your headlights (or parking lights) during daylight (or not quite dark). Of course when you turn on your lights with the dial in the normal position, all the interior lights dim a bit, cause you don't need the inside lights so bright at night. This 1st notch keeps the lights bright (like the trip computer, radio, odometer) during the daylight so they are visible. But, it is the maximum brightness of the dash lights too! #ad

I cut the yellow wire behind the light switch. Put a small off-on switch over on one of the Gauge pods on the A pillar. Can turn the dome off when needed.
I found this yellow wire running up in the A
pillar and cut it there first, but that only turned off the Map lights in Overhead console. Dome still on. So went for it behind light switch.

I did the following fix:

Yup,just cut two 20ga wires then splice them back together reversed. I would
do it right by the connection block near the rear of the fuse block, much
easier than trying to get at the switch. You will need a wireing diagram for
your year to get the right color wires. On my '95 they are the yellow (to
dome) Pink w/ dark blue tracer(to cargo)

Worked great, took about 10 minutes in the dark. You will probably need a small piece of 20 guage wire as the pink/dk blue wire won't quite reach to the yellow. The yellow was on a small pulg on the side of the switch, the pink/dk blue went to the main plug. Hope this helps.
