Cargo Lights

Does anyone know if it is possible, or has anyone ever done this?... I cant stand the fact that you cant turn on the cargo light without the interior lights coming on also. I would like to fix it so that when the cargo lights come on, I am actually able to SEE whats in the bed, and not be blinded by the interior lights. I know that it aint safe probably(thats probably why they have it set up), but occasionaly I'll here something blowing around in the back at night and I want to see what it is, but I cant see out there cause of the stupid interior lights! There has got to be a way to disconnect those inside lights from the cargo control switch. If I want the stupid inside lights on, I can turn them on manually. Any thoughts? Maybe running a seperate switch to the wire? I dont know to much about electrical stuff other than when you turn on the switch and nothing happens, somethings broke. Trucks a 01. 5 2500 4x4 sport. Yes, that is a pain. I mounted some tool boxes and a headache rack on my truck. In the headache rack I installed some lights to light up the bed and anything behind me so I'm not concerned abou the interior lights now.

Yes, you should be able to disconnect the wire from your headlight switch and install it to a seperate switch for the OEM cargo light. You'll have to find an OEM service manual to find out what wire you need to remove from the switch.

I used think nasty thoughts about the engineer that designed the dome - dimmer / cargo light every time I use it. But then I realized, engineers don't generally cut corners like that, bean counters do. How many Ram owners would buy a plug & play replacement switch that would give seperate control of the dome - dimmer circuit and the cargo light circuit? Make it look factory and I will have one. Geno's, find a vendor to make it and we will buy... . Yellowlab, good luck & keep us posted on your project.

Wait a couple of days for the new search engine.

I remember a thread about a month ago where someone reversed the wires. That way 1st click cargo, 2nd interior. He had all of the details on the thread!

It is on an old thread and works great !! Just switch two wires and the dome even still works with the door, cargo first and then interior.

I've done it to my truck, works great. Not sure where the old thread is, but I'll try to take the dash bezel off today and get the wire colors for you.
