After 3 sets of BFG 315/70/17s, all the balance problems and lack of snow traction, I had pretty much decided a tire change was in order. Another problem was the tires rubbed the control arms in full lock and I didn’t want to go to smaller tires. Went to Carli suspension and Sage told me he would not recommend putting on the starter kit unless I removed the BFG tires. Got the tires replaced with some Good Years that looked good and had good test reports from discount tire. The tire rub on the control arms became significantly worse due to the ribs on the sides of the tires.
Went back to Carli and Sage indicated the tires should work well with the suspension and would clear the control arms. I Had the Carli control arms installed with the starter kit to gain a little more clearance at full lock.
The only thing I can say is I should have done these 2 years ago. The front of the truck is up approximately 3 ½ inches and the back is up an inch and sits level. The tires don’t rub at all and the ride is better than new. The steering is tight and the truck goes over speed bumps without bottoming out the front suspension. I spend a lot of time on the California freeways and the truck no longer feels unstable going over the tar strips and cement joints on high speed corners. This is a truck with over 170,000 miles on the odometer.
Sage showed me a set of upper and lower ball joints that look like they came off an aircraft. The lowers are supposed to be done in another week and it sounds like he is going to offer a major price reduction if you get uppers and lowers as a set.
