Anyone seen the other day's episode of 2 Guys Garage starring our Cummins traitor-sell-out buddy Sam. They installed a funky brake controller made by Carlisle. The accelerometer part of it was actually mounted to the trailer. Because the 'guts' were mounted to the trailer, it apparently only required a closed brake light signal to trigger the brakes because the brake controller function was handled by the trailer. It was a big box and included a new battery box and mounting hardware. It's selling feature was that you could pull the trailer with any vehicle with trailer wiring by just plugging in the control box into the cigarette lighter (which you could control in the cab like traditional controllers).
One thing that was odd is it requires the tail lights to always be on before it will operate. I'm guessing it uses this to know the vehicle is in use because most vehicles have the charge wire always hot and it couldn't use this to make the determination? Just a guess. It looks like something I would never consider using, but I'm wondering if anyone else has ever seen, heard, used, etc.
