Traction or Pulling bars for 3rd gen trucks?

My truck, this morning, started vibrating really bad. At first, I thought it was a flat tire. No flats. Drove gingerly to the shop and pulled it in. The rubber that surrounds the carrier bearing is ripped at all 4 corners and I can move the driveshaft around a good 1/2 inch each way. Truck has 39,000 miles.

Is the rubber part replaceable by itself? The bearing seems good.

The bearing is fine.

You need to find out what ripped up the rubber/plastic housing.

Problem is though, it is a one piece unit. Sold as a one piece unit.

The part can be had @ www.newdodgeparts.com

Should run about 120 dollars.

My truck had a bad launch shudder that was fixed by adding a spacer (dealer tsb) to the carrier. The shudder is now gone, but I could see how the driveline slapping back and forth could destroy the carier bearing guide.

E7, If your warranty has expired, I would still go back to the purchasing dealer and see if they will help you. At only 3k over there might be some wiggle room, or at least a discount. If you had any shudder on take off before make sure to get the spacer added.

don't know about the newer generation rigs... but some guys a while back used a International carrier at 1/3rd the price to fix theirs... might be worth looking into and posting back

wouldn't that be covered by the powertrain warrenty of 7/70,000 with that $100 deductable. it the part is less than $100 then there is no point, but if it is over that, maybe???

I believe my warranty is only 3/36.

Is there a longer period for the powertrain (Other than the Engine itself)?

The last time I had my truck in for rear shaft vibration, they replaced all the u-joints again and mentioned a TSB. They said the TSB told them to move the carrier 1/2" to the passenger side ... ... ... ... said nothing of a spacer

Here is the spacer number as it showed on the service tag 51357099-AA I would try to find a dealer who has done this work. There is some side to side adjustment as well.

Good Luck
