I am needing to head to arizona in the next day or two and i have been noticing movement in my drivline line a bad u joint when i upshift and downshift. All the u joints look fine but the carrier bearing does seem to have about 1/4 to 1/2 in of movement. To replace this will i need to remove the entire drive line and replace u joints or will the assembly come off pretty easy. Where is the best place to be looking for this bearing. Thanks for the help.
Cheston. instructions for removal from 96 service manual:

In a diagram it states that yokes must be in same place. (lined up even)
i went through some issues of my own a couple of months ago, un bolt the drive line and there will be a slip joint with a rubber sleeve, undo that aluminium clamp and the 2 piece drive line should pull apart. grease those splines up real well , that was the issue with mine. if thats not it the only place i know of to get the bearing is napa other than from dodge. take it to a local machine shop to get it pressed on, $20. make sure those slines a greased up
I have had many issues with mine. You dont have to take to a shop to have it pressed off. A cut off wheel will work great little messy and a little stinky but oh well. On mine I just cut off the metal housing thats around the rubber bearing isolator. Once thats removed pull the rubber away and cut the bearing but be careful not to cut the drive shaft. You might not have to cut all the way through the bearing but get close and give it a few hits with a hammer. To put the new one on clean the shaft very well and I use a piece of pipe to go around the shaft where the splines are and hit the new one on. It really easy. I had some troubles with the carrier bearing mount not the bearing so I know that my method does not hurt the bearing if your careful. Much better then driving to a shop and finding one thats open I have to work all the time so I have no choice.
if you have an anvil or a steel bench just set it on that and hit the outer bearing with a sledge it will usually shatter then just give the inner a few smacks and it should slide off
Thanks, i just got back from a trip to phoneix and nothing exploded but a good deal of vibration is going on. I will take the advice and put that on tomorrow night. Thanks for the help.
Definetly works to just use a cut off wheel and then hammer inner bearing off. I then used a couple pipes that were the right dia to just hammer new bearing onto shaft.
