have a 01 2500 longbed quadcab with 6" suspension lift. i have gone through 2 carrier bearings in the last 6 months the last one lasted 1 week. the bearing is good it just keeps burning through the rubber bushing. i have a 1 1/4" drop on the bearing, what is happening, HELP! :(

Just a thought... . Have you noticed if the rubber had fuel/oil on it from a leak further forward of the carrier bearing? Mine would get so covered in fuel/oil that the rubber bushing would be deteriorated to the point that it would allow the driveshaft to rub against the carrier bearing bracket while pulling. I use a bearing that has a metal "deflector" in front of it to keep oils off of it.

Not sure what could be the issue, I lifted my dually 7" and I am only on my second carrier in 170K miles. First one lasted about 140K. I didn't have to drop the bracket or do anything for that matter to the carrier. Did you install a new driveshaft at all anytime recently? Carriers shouldn't just burn out like that as all they do is just that... . carry the driveshaft..... I know you probably know that, not trying to be a smart *****. :)

no new driveshaft and no oil or fluid on it the bearing has plenty of grease in it. it seems like there is to much weight on it and its burnin the rubber up. i get my new bearing tuesday so i think i will take it to a driveline shop or the local diesel performance shop?

Joe,

After a visit with Craig in Palmdale, a BBQ and 150 more Horses, I crushed my Carrier bearing the very next day...

Waiting to make sure that's the only damage I sustained...
