The front 1/2 of my rear drive-shaft is sliding back and rubbing the housing on the carrier bearing. I think it's a bad carrier bearing so what do you think? If you think it is the carrier bearing I ask if anyone has a part number and price. How hard is it to change out.

Thanks for your help

Cliff

Sounds light the bearing. they are about $135 from DC. I think NAPA has them now. To change them out you will have to have a press to remove the old one and install the new on the driveshaft. The bolts that hold it to the frame are 15MM, and if you have not messed with the driveshaft before it is very heavy.

Thanks MM

I went to NAPA no luck went to Auto Zone no luck :(

So off to DC I go they did not have one but said a dealer 30 miles away had one so they called and yes it was in stock. Off I go and now I got it DC. PN. # 4773014 $128. 00 I ask for a discount and the parts man said ok $115. 20 :)

I will put it in tonight and report back I hope.

Thanks

Job is done

Started at 6:30 pm and by 7:00pm I was out looking for some one to press the old bearing off and the new one on. After 4 stops I landed at Pep Boys and they did it for $21. 95

Back to the truck at 9:15 pm cleaned every thing and put it back together. Test ride at 10:15 pm all is good smoooooth as glass.

The old bearing was good but the rubber was just about gone the bearing must have been flopping around in the housing for some time.

Hope this helps some one looking to do the carrier bearing change out. :D

Stevek

I had the front U-joint go out on the back 1/2 of the rear drive shaft about two weeks ago the one next to the carrier bearing I think this is what started the rubber breaking down and I could feal some thing vibrating it felt like the U-joint again.

I don't drive much every day so it took me two weeks to get this under control.
