Cars with comfortable seats for long trips

One reason I enjoy trucking is the comfortable seat. My 92 Acura Vigor gets better mileage and is a lot quieter but the seat is not made for a big guy like me. At least not for a long trip. I wondered if any of you have cars that have big enough seats for long trips.

Dale, my Dodge truck seat is by far the most comfortable. Something I tried on my last long trip that you wouldn't think is comfortable but turned out to be great is(if you have a power seat)raise the seat as high as it goes and as far forward as is comfortable,then tilt the steering wheel to the highest position. Try it you'll like it!

Power seat? illflem my truck is basic truck. No power seat, no air, I guess it has an extra lightgroup, but that is all the extras except what I have done to it. But, just in case I was not clear, the truck seat is mighty fine. I can drive the truck from Seattle to Boulder in two days no problem. But not in the Vigor. After a couple hours in the the car my back is hurting.
By the way I drove past your neck of the woods about a month ago when driving from here up to the Loomis to check the snowshoeing out. Nice country Eastern Washington.

Dale, I understood what you meant. Some of the Mercedes I've sat in are pretty comfortable,other than that I can't help you.
I just finished putting a new engine in my daughter's Honda Accord today and had to test drive it,what a pain in the back and it's supposed to be a comfortable one. First of all I have to put the seat all the way back and the steering wheel all the way up before I can crawl in backwards just to fit. Finally get seated and I feel like I'm sitting on the ground.
Oh well,I don't have to get in it much. My daughter likes it though,she's only 5'1 and says it makes her look bigger to other people when she's in it. Seems like a lot of the newer rigs are built around much of the same lines. Made for Japs maybe?
Glad you liked it over here on the dry side,more snow on the way next week they say.

We have a 94 Mustang that has very comfortable seats for long trips. The only thing that get to you though,is the road noise... because it's a convertible! It gets better mileage than my truck,but I prefer driving my truck on long trips. I have more luggage space and I don't get tossed around on the road when another vehicle passes me.

My wife had an 87 turbo Chrysler LeBaron. The seats were awesome. Far more comfortable than my living room. VERY soft plush leather.
As a note, I had a Mercedes 190 D. I thought it to be pretty spartain inside. Dont get me wrong, I loved the car,it just was plain inside.

Hey Dale!! Great car, BTW! I had a '92 Vigor, one of the best cars I've ever owned. I miss it terribly. That inline five SCREAMS! Honda screwed up when they axed that motor. It's much nicer than their V-6.

The most comfortable seats I've seen are the ones in my '99 Isuzu Trooper. Spacious, supportive and soft. Took a fast road trip from Dickinson to Amarillo, only stopped twice. No discomfort at all. But, I'm a runt! 5'10 and 170, so I fit pretty well in almost anything, (Miata).

The seats in my Ram are pretty darned comfy, too! #ad

You know Jim, Vigors do not cost that much. Mine has 165,000 miles on it and does not use any oil. Looks good, drives easy, 5 speed shifter, 120mph or 30mpg but not both at the same time. I almost ran out of gasoline in Montana when that state did not have a speed limit. But I bought it for my smaller wife and its seats fit her a lot better than they fit me. Actually the real problem is I am getting old. I once drove a MGA from Boulder to Fairbanks with no back problem. But that was 40 years ago.

The best and most comfortable car for long trips is unquestionably the Ford Crown Victoria / Mercury Grand Marquis. I have a 1990 LTD Crown Vic which has plenty of room even for a 6'5"+ person. I commute 150+ miles round trip a day and my Crown Vic is my Mon/Wed/Fri car, truck on the others.
It is like driving down the road on your couch and my 302 V8 gets 24 mpg and has over 100,000 miles on it!
The Crown Vic/Mercury Marquis is the best car for the money as far as I'm concered. You can get them cheap compared to even mid size cars, and when you arive at the end of a long trip you feel refreshed, not stiff and tired. My folks have 1997 & 1999 Marquis and wouldn't buy anything else.
Like my Rugers an M1 Garand, you can have my Crown Vic when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

Most comfortable seats: my Dodge Ram. Second place; the 1986 Mercur Scorpio we owned for five years. Awsome car, with fantastic handling and ride, plus great road manners. It had better passing power than almost any car I've owned. The only Ford I ever owned that was worth anything. Made in Germany by elves from the Black Forest I think.

I find that the more upright that I sit, the longer I can drive. Factoring in long legs, that leaves pretty much all cars out.

Left work one night at midnight and ran up to New Hampshire then back home for a total of 750 miles with my dually. Stopped only briefly for food and fuel. My back was fine even though I was running with no weight on the bed.

I have to admit though, I had a 92' full size Ford van with captain chairs that was good for long hauls. Only thing with that truck was aerodynamics similar to a flying cinder block.

My Mom just bought one of those new Chevy Impalas. I drove it a few weeks ago and was impressed with how comfortable the seats were in that thing. Granted, it's ugly as sin but it fit me fine.
BTW, I'm 6'1'' so finding something comfortable is also a pain sometimes. You oughtta se me try to get out of my wife's Mitsubishi Eclipse. OUCH.

The bigger vehicles that we've had ('93 B250 van, 94 K 1500, 98 Ram2500) have all ridden well... (cheby's gone #ad
, but the 2 different Rams are in the driveway) I also liked my '89 Spirit (turbo'd 2. 5Liter)... ... reminded me of a good couch that would burn front rubber in all 3 gears!
worst ride in all my history: '74 Datsun B-210, but, with some obnoxo-firestone mud/snow tires, it'd "offroad" like a Jeep #ad

Reminds me of my old $500 college ride, a '78 Ford LTD. They will never make a car as comfortable as that again (at least for the "larger" people). Man, i miss that car!

80 Olds Delta 88 brogham diesel. Put 320k on it before valve job, Plugged egr first week, cummins modified the rooster pump 2nd week, 25 gal tank. 40mpg hyway. fill up in Chicago and again in McAllen, TX and vice versa. Had to check the oranges and ruby reds. Took seat out in 85 and put in mom's new 85 big pontiac. She still has the car and seats are still the second best to the Frod truck power captains chairs.

I will have to agree with Rapid Rick that the early Intrepids had great seats but my 98 Intrepid is even better. I make 600 mi trips to Utah and Idaho with only one stop at Twin Falls. Am a big guy 6'4" 260 so need good spacious seats.

By far, the most comfortable seats I ever found were in the 1992 Lincoln Town Car I had for my wife. It had power everthing! And for someone as large as I am it was a great car to drive and very comfortable for those long vacations. Plenty of room!
