Looks like I need to change the belt on my backhoe. It has the 4B Cummins in it. I'm too cheap to buy the $275 service manual for it so I need some advise. It looks like I need to remove the hyd pump coupler from the front of the engine to r&r the belt. Is this how it is done? Are there any secrets? do I need to remove the entire pump or can I get the coupler out?

Thanks, Larry

Larry, the coupler comes right out after removing four bolts. On newer hoes the pump is free floating, there is a leg on the pump that fits into a notch on the frame to keep the pump from spinning. Older ones have two bolts holding the pump in oblong holes so it slides forward. Basically a straight forward job in a tight spot. The new belt should have about 1/2" of deflection and should be retightened after a few hours. Have fun.

Thanks Guys

Bill

This one has the spring tensioner and belt like our trucks so I wont have to worry about belt tension. It's a 96 so should have the floating pump then huh? Thanks.
