What is this truck for?

Back to FCA

Very interesting article. Thanks

One of the major issues that I can see personally is the fact that the dealerships are forced closed in many states right now. PA is one of them. Here, the service departments are allowed to be open but dealership sales departments are forced closed by our governor. I have been trying to purchase a vehicle for the last 2 weeks. I simply can't. I've contacted salespeople and finance people at the dealership level. I've even been in email contact with Ford Credit directly and simply nobody can do anything right now. I can't be the only one in this position and I would imagine that sales across the board will skyrocket once these government orders are lifted.

Yeah I was set up to buy a work truck the week before NJ went dark.

I just shuffled some other spares around to make what I needed work, I usually have a few spares just in case.

I also sold a van on the Saturday before the NJ DMV closed, it was to a good friend so I gave him the cash back incase he needed it because there was no end in sight. No way for him to get plates on it. He's still employed should be fine but still it's a mess out there for sure.

I have one coming off lease at the end of the month. I can't arrange to buy it out, can't arrange to return it, and can't arrange to buy/lease another one. I've asked Ford Credit what I am supposed to do. In writing, they told me to call them on a number, that you can't get through on due to the call volume, to speak with a customer service rep.

I did finally get them to give me in writing an alternate number that has been more helpful. Basically what they told me is that I will need to extend the lease in 2 month intervals until the dealerships reopen. What I can't find out is if those extended payments will lower the buyout price by the same amount or if I will basically be renting it for extra time.

The entire process is frustrating to say the least. But, I keep trying to tell myself that this is uncharted territory for everyone and that I need to be patient.

I think they will do the right thing, but I'm usually pretty positive.

I talked with my dealer a bit before the shutdown, they actually had some really good ideas about home delivery and all paperless financials, guess most of that's out the window with the giant reset button that will be pressed.

But yeah your basically going to rent the truck for a few months is what it should like.

I was always over on Leases I would buy a ton of extra miles on the front end and still blow the miles. One time I was like $9k in miles put 137k on a 2007 Tahoe that was a lease. When all said and done it worked out to a little bit less then buying the thing, it was a company ride so it worked out either way. I made a lot of money with that truck work wise, so cant really complain.

I agree with you. Things are just so different right now that nobody really knows what is coming next. All of the people that I have talked to have been extremely nice. Hopefully, it will all work in the end.

Even if it costs me a little more than I had planned, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. My wife and I were both lucky enough to be able to transition to working at home and keep our income coming in. So far, our family has been healthy. I'm just going to count my blessings and try to take this little inconvenience in stride.

All the major players are on TV saying you can purchase online and have the vehicle delivered. It seems strange that in some states they have shut off new purchases for a necessary item like a vehicle. What if you are a first responder and your vehicle gets wrecked?
And were in CA where we were the first to lock down most businesses, hard to believe the leaders thought ahead on this one here.

Yep exactly.

My Sister just had their car totaled hit a deer on Saturday, he is a state prison gaurd and my nephew has some serious medical issues where they need a car home and hor him at all times. They got a rental the same day, but will need to figure out something most likely before this thing comes to an end.

Anyone remember details of how that program worked.

Read this tonight.

Couple good articles as well on the Auto Industry pitching in with medical supplies.

I bought under that program. Basically a joke as dealers knew that buyers had a clock to beat before the cash ran out. Also, the vehicle couldn’t be just new, it had to get better mileage than your old clunker. Left out hd pickups. I needed a replacement for my puddle jumper, so traded 94 for an 09. Would have been ahead to keep the old one, it was way more truck. Just put a trans in the 09 at 103k. 94 was close to 300k and no issues. For the record, still have the 01 3500 and going strong.

What are they paying for a rental at the moment? One of my family working an essential jobs said rental vehicles, like a Chevy 1/2 ton pickup, in GA are $11.00 per day right now rented a week at a time. They asked for a RAM but wound up with a Chevy.
