Competition Shelby, MO Truck and Tractor Pull

I am in the (slow) process of converting my 12v into a puller. How important or necessary is it to use a cast bell housing as opposed to the stock aluminum. I am going to try 3 or 4 pulls this year. Should I be concerned about is shattering?

Isn't the aluminum one cast?

Perhaps what you're thinking of is a stamped or fabricated steel housing?

Either way, I would not think it would be an issue until you're approaching the bleeding edge of the power range, like well over 700 hp. That may be conservative.

I just wasn't sure how much power the aluminum bell housing could handle and at what point I would consider replacing it with something else. Thanks for the replies.

At this time, I know of no class that requires a different bellhousing, other than the SFI blowproof, for full competition trucks.

Our bellhousings hold up well by themselves to the torque of modified Cummins, it is shrapnel coming from overloaded clutches that tend to trash them.

I'm not sure about mid state PA, but NW PA requires blankets on non-stock turbocharger trucks.

Brian Browell a fellow comp racer , will build you any belhousing you need , and it will be SFI spec , my bellhousing is one of his , also the Edge truck has one of his also,

as far as blankets for transmissions STROUD safety is one of the best at unusuals deals ,

if your not turning 4500 + you in the back of the pack any way , JW transmission also makes a great SFI flex plate that is very reasiable

Jasion Coan at Coan engineering is the only one in convertors , my convertor goes thru the traps with only a 1. 5 % slip and its a non lock up

I would caution any puller, that wants a flywheel, to make sure it is compatible with the clutch they are going run. I would suggest buying them as a unit.

Kinda bringing this topic back... I am in need of a bell housing now, and instead of a stock one, I'd rather replace with something heavier, I like my legs and feet.

Anyone run a blanket year round? does it hold water? how do they hold up?

Does anyone make a steel bell housing? Does anyone make a fabricated scatter shield?
