Castrol Syntec Blend CH4 approved

I was at Camping World last weekend and I noticed that

Castrol Syntec Blend 15w-40 (Truck & 4x4) had a CH4 approval.

Is anyone out there using this product in their Cummins?



I have used Castrol (non-synthetic) 20w-50 in my gas Toyota's for 20 years with great results.

I got 350,000 miles on my 1986 truck.

I now have 130,000 on my 1996 truck and another 100,000 on my wife's Corolla.



I was planning on using Delo since it is available at Costco for

$33. 00 for 6 gallons. That works out to be $1. 33/qt.

The Syntec Blend is around $2. 00/qt.



Im also planning on 5k change intervals.

I was also wondering if others were using Castrol Syntec when I noticed the CH-4 rating while looking a sale display at my local Napa. Don't know if it's nationwide but it was on sale for $1. 39/qt. The Napa brand CH4 15w-40 dino oil, which is rebadged Valvoline, was just 79¢/qt.



This is just out of my own curiosity, 30 years of Delo in my diesels with excellent results gives me no motive to change.

Syn Blend

I've been looking for a blend to use since I can't afford to dump the Amsoil after every trip to the track. Gonna check the price on the Cummins Blue 2000 today. I like the idea of syn since it's resistant to the heat we run. Gotta be better for keeping the turbos happy.

I think you are dead on when you talk about the heat issue with turbos and synthetics. For the average user this may be a moot point, but for some HP 1/4 mile and pulling trucks I think it is a worth while difference.





Castrol makes a decent oil in at $1. 33 a quart it it hard to beat. Valvoline PB 2000 is overpriced and not all that special IMHO. The best blend I have seen to date is Schaffeurs. I think it's around $2. 75 a quart and it around 20% synthetic (most are less than 10%) www.bobistheoilguy.com

Good point on the percentages used to obtain the "blend"... Pretty devious to sell a "blend" if there's only 5% of the stuff in there you REALLY want... I bought some Valvoline "blend" power steering lube - was wondering as I paid for it how much synthetic was REALLY in there...

Cooker, glad you see my point. BTW, don't forget that I run two turbos, hence more concern for heat resistance.



Today I got a price on the full syn Cummins oil and it was approx 16 bucks per gallon. I'm going to look into the price on the Castrol blend locally. I am getting a lot of soot in my oil for some reason

IF you are in the market for the new syn Cummins Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme (I think that's what they call it), I have heard many guys are buying it at Napa for around $12/gallon
