Ive heard some dealers will sell it in a jug to you.

How ever When i bought a clutch and a few other peices from six states in portland ,oregon the distributor for the nv4500 and 5600 transmissions etc and axels etc . .

They Do not recomend the Castrol syntorq or the mobil oil either , they have had tons of come backs on them .
They sold me Redline MT90 and Redline MTL transmission oil I dont have troubles at all and it shifts like new if the factory distributor recommends it then i use it

Not to start a brand war but Amsoil has a product that meets the GL4 requirements required for the NV4500HD. GL4 is required because GL5 is destructive to yellow metal. The product is Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear lube. It meets GL4 specs and is non-corrosive to yellow metals.

Just a thought ARCO/BP owns Castorl they ran their oils in their fleet gas hauling trucks. THEY HAD MORE OIL RELATED FAILURES WHEN THEY DID

I have had lots of synchro problems using other oils so I thought I would go with the oem oils so what are you guys using for oils? And how long have you used it?
Thanks Shaun

Blumenthal's NV4500 and NV5600 specific oils. They have a special oil formulated just for thier rebuilds. I've had good luck with no failures using their oils the last three years. They've had good luck, as well, they tell me, with many less returns and failures. It's pretty reasonable priced, too. I bought several gallons last year, and I think it was @$15 gallon... . That was shop price, though.....

Thanks for the replies guys I bought my synchros from quad 4x4 and I talked to him and said to only use the castrol with his synchros so I guess we ll give it a whirl hopefully have better luck than I've had .

I have 217,xxx miles on my factory, never been rebuilt nv4500. for what it's worth, I ran the original factory fill of the syntorq for 2 1/2 years and then switched to valvoline for about three more years and then have run Royal Purple in it ever since.

here is a crazy one back in the day in the old road rangers they said use gear oil now in the same trans they say use 50 wait motor oil

Yeah, funny, they found the 50 weight had better heat carrying capabilities, and still allowed the transmission to be shifted when cold without breaking shift forks... . It was standard in Northern trucks, but now they've found installing a cooler makes it run longer, even in Southern heat... . The 50w carries heat away from internal roller bearings, has almost as much cushion between gears as 75w-90, has less overall drag, actually reduces gear wear from spinning, fast shifts, and makes the trannies run longer, overall. Surprised me, too. PACCAR did many of the studies, many here in Denton, in cooperation with UNT engineering program..... I read several of the papers they issued... . Well, I scanned several of the papers... . :D

50W engine oil and 80W90 gear oil is the same viscosity.
