I don't think Cat filters use that black ring (at least none of the ones I have ever used did). It's the fleetguard filters that have the small thick ring that goes over the center post on the housing. If you use the ring with a Cat filter you may strip the threads trying to get it to stop leaking. (speaking from experience)
When I changed to the CAT filter it screwed on and tightened the same as the Fleetguard. It sealed the same as the Fleetguard with no additional effort required. So, I'm not sure what the deal is??
that sealing gasket on the threaded stub on the filter head doesn't come with the filters. . i got 2 filter heads from cummins, and the head itself comes with the rubber gasket for the clean side. if the gasket is not broken, don't change it.
