hey i need help on a problem.

HEY 2broke2smoke

Anyone have experience or recommend a turbo shop for this engine? I have one in the toter and seized the turbo yesterday, was lucky (somewhat), coming back from a 20 hr roadtrip and it let go 25 miles from the house.

Appears to have siezed more than shredded, intercooler hose has oil but no AL dust or bits, will check out the IC and IC to intake lines as well.

I'm surprised it let go, 72k over the road miles grossing 28k or so, hardly a tough life. Will ask Cat about goodwill, there was a 5yr100k mile but it's a 2001 truck.

In the mean time, I'd like to find an upgraded turbo or figure out what type of Pm to do to avoid this in the future, maybe new bearings every 50k miles?

I had one go on a C15 with less than 200k miles, I've also owned trucks with over 800k miles on the original turbo. Some last, others don't. I'm pretty sure the 3126 and the C7 use the Schwitzer S300 family of turbos. Which is basically what most are using on here for dodge truck upgrades. (BD, Industrial injection, PDR) I don't know if there is a better turbo for your specific application. I know someone would be glad to sell you a modified version of what Cat already uses factory but without some fueling mods I don't know if it would be worth the extra money. You can buy a reman from Cat for probably less than a grand, where the same turbo "modified" (B1) could cost $1700. 00.

Well, I've got a small edge box good for 40/120, my core may be shot (cold impeller has some bad leading edges) so if the 1700 is outright it may be competitive- so i guess I'll check with some of the shops you suggested- I'm flipping thru the TDR now calling shops...

I'd venture to guess your core would be ok through Cat. Mine broke the shaft and the compressor wheel exploded and they took mine, even with the gouges in the compressor housing. I'm not sure what parts they re-use other than the housings.

thanks, I'll be sure to ask that question- one of the shops i called specifically said no compressor impeller damage, I know the housings and both impellers are bad, the compressor side has the shaft offset about . 200".

I used to fix these things for APU's for commercial aircraft, any assy can be rebuilt if you want to, just not always feasible
