Cat. converter/resonater on 2004.5

I have a 2004. 5 and have recently started modifying it with an edge ez and a afe intake, 4 inch magnaflow muffler, and a tst box coming in the near future. My question is will the cat on the truck hinder performance or is it just better left alone due to warranty/emmission problems. I was going to take it off and remove the core, but was curious for some input on this.

I for one have lost the muffler but will be retaining the cat. My conclusion on the removal of the cat was that there was no significant gain in power or lower egts. Emphasis on significant.



I might remove it in the future but not for now.

I'm going to cut it all off and exit it in front of the rear tire. Less pipe (up and over the rear axle) has to mean less resistance.

answer to both questions is yes. the cat does restrict the exhaust a good bit and hinders the potential performance of it. but if you are scared of being caught with no cat under there being that it is a federal offence to remove it for other than testing purposes, by all means, leave it there. eventually it will plug up, and you will notice a very significant performance reduction, then either get it fixed under the emissions warrenty of your truck, or take it out, hollow it out with a nice long piece of 3/4" concrete rebar and put it back.

We sell a lot of systems for the 2003/04 and 04. 4's and the customers tell us there is a difference in egts if you delete the cat after removing the muffler etc. They must be on to something as we sell 90% of the 2004. 5 systems with cat delete pipes. Their info indicates a 50 degress drop or so. I imagine a lot of the cat deletes we have sold are going on stock trucks with the factory exhaust as well.

Took mine off as well, you would be amazed at all the crap in one of those. It has to be restrictive, dont have my pyro yet to prove it.

Hey whats the sound like on the 600 with the muffler gone and the cat still there?. I have all the hardware for removing it when the 05 gets here. Please let me know.
