Cat guts and Mufflers, again.

Looking at gutting the cat! How's it done? I heard ramming a pipe down the center and welding it to each end (same diameter as exaust pipe) so there is total bypass but looks stock is one way... Are there any others? I live in fruitafornia and probably will keep the d&%#@n thing in place. They already have sniff stations at some onramps that read your exaust and send you nice letters to appear at the nearest smog station! Anyway,...

Dynomax or Walker? Any thoughts??

Ugh, catgut makeum good replacement throttle cable!

The technique you described is probably the best way for your environment- I've read reports that state that hollowing out the cat actually causes more back-pressure due to turbulence in the cat housing. Good luck.

I replaced mine with a straight piece of pipe that fit inside the muffler inlet. Where the cat connected to the down pipe I used a reducer(2 1/2 to 3 OD ?,I can't remember, get out your calipers)You will also need 3 pipe clamps the appropriate size,I got every thing at NAPA for under $20. Best way to get the cat out and to still have it reusuable is to remove the clamps,heat the ends with a torch almost red,then wiggle the cat free. Save the cat,you don't know when you might need it again. Don't worry, removal of the cat will not cause any more visable smoke.

Illflem, thanks. I got it now. The pipe bypasses any of the cat's internal workings and allows exaust to excape uninhibited completely. Cool! I'll have to collect a few reducers when I do the job so I have all that I need right there when I get going on it. And then, there's the possibility of bypassing the kitty altogether... . Hmmmm?!
