Buying a new rig for Camper/Hauler

Intro and my new used 01 3500 24V DRW

Can anyone tell me if all Dodge Cummins diesel have or had catalytic converters? I have a 2003 Ram 3500 4wd 5. 9 HO Diesel truck. Thanks for any help.

Interesting... my 1997 3500; 4x4; C&C came with a converter on it... even though I purchased it when I lived in Idaho. I thought it was strange @ the time, but the dealer was clueless (wasn't the first time for THAT, tho ).

I think it's "bad", though... so when I put my 4" exhaust on it, I will use a "test pipe". . ;););)

Trucks built calender year 1994 to the end if 1998 had catalytic converters. 1989-1994 (built in 1993) models did not have the cat. 1998. 5 (built after Jan 1 1998)- 2004 (built before Jan 1 2004) had no cat. 2004. 5 (after Jan 1 2004) to present have the cat. California trucks had them in more years, along with EGR.

I am fairly certain that what your calling a cat is really a resonator, 94-98. ;)

I believe the 2004. 5 models and newer have the cat to make them 50 state legal, (Cummins600) no more seperation from california trucks. I also think they rate the trans. (manual or automatic), at the same HP/TQ level. That used to be two different listings also.

Sorry, the 2nd Gen 12v's had a cat. It also costs near $1400. Recommend test pipe instead of stripping the guts from the cat. Could save quite a bit later if the cat is needed by current or future owner.

Also, my 06' has a 4" cat. Don't recall the exact size from my 96'. Might've been either 3" or 3. 5".

I have moved from Arkansas to Missouri where I need an inspection on my truck. Bought it brand new in 2002 and to be honest I have no clue if it has the Cat, and if I'll have issues with inspection in MO.

I wouldnt post in threads that are a decade old... But just to answer your question, your 2002 came with a resonator and muffler, no cat.
