Catalytic Converter

I have a '99 Tracker. Used mainly for off-road summer fun. The catalytic converter is shot. Costs about $400 to replace. I am considering cutting the thing off. What do you think Is this a good idea Any advice?

If it were mine, I'd cut it off. It has worked well for me on more than one vehicle.

I do not recommend cutting the cat off an offroad rig. I have done this several times and always end up putting one back on. Losing the cat makes the exhaust STINK, which turns into a major PITA when playing on trails.

Have a universal cat put in place, much cheaper than a direct fit... About half.

I have had good luck with these cats. . No need for OEM grade at this point, but enough to do something.
