Who's going to buy the new diesel vehicles?

Hey guys, been hearing lots of rumors about Ford junking the 6. 0 liter PowerJOKE, and switching to a Cat engine. Nothing concrete, but wondering if anybody here has heard anything? I've also heard about a 6. 6 liter twin-turbo engine for Ford in 2007 to meet emissions. I know that Cat has already come out with the twin-turbo ACERT engine for trucks, so maybe something is in the works. All I can say is, I do love Cat engines as much as a Cummins, but dont worry, this Dodge will be on my farm until it completely dies, and maybe more than that!

i still think that if Ford would put inline 6 cylinder John Deere's in their trucks they would out sell everybody. I still perfer a cummins, but JD is soo popular now, people would eat it up.

The john deere motor may look good on paper but unless the JD motor was better on fuel than their tractor motors are they would not be that good. I am not bashing JD by anymeans I have used them all my life and am restoring a B, but if you compare the JD motors to the similar cummins motors in the red or blue tractors the fuel economy is not there. Their lugging power is not as good either (could be a trans thing, it don't know) any one who is die hard JD and is thinking I am blowing smoke go compare them.

As far as ford motors go only time will tell. Just like the dodge. Some people on our side have heard 6. 7 cummins I on the other hand have heard Benz. We will just have to wait.

Are you all serious? JD? Deere, at any given time is at least 10 years behind everyone else in terms of technological developments in Ag and their engines. I know I am probably going to hurt some poor Deere fanatic's feelings with that comment, but the truth is always painful to hear. put put put put put put put put sputter sputter put put put :-laf

I work for the local CAT dealer here in CA. and I heard alittle about this a while back. I asked our district rep. from Caterpillar last month if she knew anything about this and she admitted that CAT and Ford are talking about a possible pickup powerplant but that's all she knew was that they were only talking. Now the thing that makes me wonder is, when I was at the regional training center at Tucson AZ. last April one of the engine development guys kind of spilled the beans on us by telling us CAT has a new 6. 6 liter fliud actuated fuel system engine coming out in 2006-2007 but then he clammed up and wouldn't tell us anything else. So I guess it's just talk at this point. I've worked for the dealer for 22 years and I am biased towards Caterpillar, heck I'll probably even bleed yellow if you cut me, but I wouldn't trade my 02 Dodge Cummins for anything right now or at least for the next 10 years. I reallly love this truck and engine.

I am not familiar with the new engine that is rumored above , but if it is like the big cats or the the ones in tractors they are good in general , but if you need parts you will need some big bucks and you won't find them just anywhere.

hmm, 6. 6 liter like the first engine on this page???

that would be a stout engine when you turn up the power a bit [top rating right now 250hp@2200rpm] but i don't think you will ever see that engine turning more than 3k, and the ford boys won't like that as they seem to like their engines turning 4k+. and if cat say limited the engine speed to 2500-2600rpm, while it would make a great work engine, it won't win any drag races. .
