As posted already on the board, the fix for the 6 speed rattle is newly designed clutch with a better dampening design. What I found out from the engineering department at Chrysler is the cause.
Believe it or not, the cause is the crankshaft harmonics at idle. The crankshaft is moving in and out and putting pressure through the output shaft into the transmission. The noise is being caused by the plates in the transmission. Apply the clutch eliminates the noise... (light comes on in my head). BTW, they are standing behind the statement of this does not cause damage.
Now is the big question, how long do you think (total mileage) Chrysler would honor the bulletin. What is the mileage window because why replace a clutch at 9,000 miles when you can get a worn clutch repaired (under warranty) at say 25,000 miles. I don't think it is taking advantage of DC because they can't use the bad clutch. They are going to reimburse the dealer now or later. We just benefit 15-20,000 miles of clutch.
