I just replaced the cb antenna on my truck. Its been on the truck since new, and it worked ok I guess. (never really use it execpt to listen when on long road trips).
Anyway, I went to tune it and, right out of the box it pegged the needle on my swr meter. Per the instructions, I cut about 1/8 inch off the top of the antenna but it made no difference. Before I just go out and buy another antenna, I put my ohm meter on the cable between the radio and the antenna base (with the antenna off). It was shorted. Just based on a visual inspection of the base, it didnt look like there was a problem with the wire from what I could see.

Here is my question. With the radio not hooked up and the antenna not screwed down into the base, should there be a short between the pin and ground ? Or should it be open ? (I thought it should be open.)

When I tightened the new antenna on I must have turned the bolt in the base and caused the primary wire to touch the base (short) duh.... Well, Im allowed one of those every once in a while. :) My wife says so.
