I'm thinking of takeing the CB out of my wifes car and putting it into my new Diesel (she never uses it ). What is a good CB antenna and what is the best place to mount it. Also where to get it.
Thanks Rich

I have President Dakota magnet mount (like it better than the wilson) on my truck. I does a great job. I like this set up because it gets the antenna up high. You can also swivel the stinger down when going into garages and etc. without removing the antenna.
Others are using a firestik mount made just for Ram's that mounts on the fender lip under the hood.

K40 is the best in my opinion, several mounts available, the nice thing is you can twist the unit off the base so you may go in your garage, very simple, where to buy in your area??? K40 goes with independent dealers so its hard to say, worse comes to worse ,my dad is a dealer E mail me if you like!

Where do you run the wire into the cab with the magnet mount antenna, and not have it look cheesy?

I would like to be able to leave the magnet on all the time and twist off the antenna when necessary

Where can I get a President Dakota cb antenna and where might I see a picture of one? #ad

If I was you, I would not use a magnetic mount due to dust getting under it and sratching the paint. I have some scratches on my roof from hitting stuff with the antenna and scooting it. If you have the west coast mirrors, you can mount the antenna on them. Or you can get the mount that hooks under the hood from firestick. As far as wire routing goes, there are rubber gromets in the door hinge. I ran my wire from the mirror mount under the hood then back around into the grommet in the hinge. There is a black fiber pannel that sits in between the front of the door and the back of the engine compartment that just sits there. The grommet has to be mutlated to get the cb wire through it, and is a b**** to get back in.

The President Dakota has a full rubber gasket that protects your paint from getting messed up. I bought mine from www.exportradios.com.
They have a bulletin board service also that is interesting. That is how I first found out that President Electronics was carrying antennas now. I'm not sure if they (Export Radios) have a picture of antenna, but I did find a web address on their site for this antenna, when I was trying to decide between Wilson 5000, K40 and the Dakota.
Right now I run mine over to the side (you can adjust the stinger, so it is at a right angle to the truck, that way it does not stick out past the cab) and in the side window on my Ext. Cab '96. I will be putting it to the back middle of cab and running it down and up under
the floor through a grommet.

I too have been looking. But I am leaning towards the firestick hood mount in as much as when camping I take our boat on the roof boat rack, so that nixes the roof mount!

I know it will cut down on my transmission capabilities but whatchyagonna do? B4 I had dual antennas mounted on the mirrors and it worked great, but not keen on duals again...

Any thoughts?

It's too late for me to worry about scratches.
I've had a wilson 1000 mag mount for 1. 5 yrs.
I love the reception, but as I understand it, the Dakota lets you swivle the antenna down when entering your garage. Am I right on this? That's why I've been thinking about switching. That, and I bent the whip on the Wilson so bad I'm going to have to replace it.

Well, I mounted twin truckers on mine. Drilled two holes in each door in above the top hinge. Looks good, 1. 2 SWRs, and talks/receives clear as a bell. I know not too many folks will drill holes in a new truck, but...

Iceman how does the whip mount? Could it still be mounted with a tonneau cover? Where did you come into the cab with the wire?

Thanks,
Ryan

It's hard to see, but here is a pic of my mount. It is right behind the cab on the drivers side. Made a triangle mount to fit in the corner of the bed.
