I'll be in a remote, poor cell phone coverage area on a job for the next few months and have decided to install a truckers style Wilson cell antenna. Any thing to consider while mounting the antenna in regards to the CB antenna.

My plans are to install the cell unit on the headache rack centered, which puts in directly behind the mag mount cb antenna that's in the center of the cab.

Also, I was high bidder on my Wilson cell phone antenna on ebay, just got off the phone with Wilson and they don't make a adapter for my Motorola V220 phone. I'm thinking buy a second stock antenna, and solder up some type connector, then screw it back into the phone.

Anyone know if this will work, or have a better suggestion.

Thanks, RR

I know your "In Country" so I can't give you any specifics, but I'd try to find a commercial radio shop and see what they have to offer, they may have a solution.

What style connector does it take... I have found several "other" phone adapters that work in the "no adapter made" phones... just find a display and start looking.

It won't affect the cb at all, I ran one in a similar setup as your's.

steved, my phone is does not have a port for a aux antenna. That's why I'm thinking modify a stock antenna to connect to the Wilson cable, then screw it back in place.

J, good suggestion, if I'm unable to come up with a home grown solution, that's what I'll do.

Thanks,

RR

If they are still made, Wilson does have an adapter that has a ring on it. It slips over the short antenna on the phone.

On installing the antenna, I do remember the instructios saying that the cell antena needs to be 8"+ away from another antenna.

I bought a Wilson trucker antenna a couple of wekks ago, or os, and it helps a lot. Been able to keep a conversation going in someplaces where I normaly can't keep a signal for very long at all. If needed, they do have a signal amp that can be purchased as well. Something like $250+, though.

b, it was your thread that got me to thinking about a antenna. Thanks for the heads up on the ring adapter. I call Wilson back and see if that helps. All the person I talked to knew was that his catalog didn't show anything for my phone.

My . 02. You might consider a 'Smoothtalker'. Believe Wisons makes it also. It boost the miniscule cell wattage to 3 watts I believe. I can now get coverage pretty much anywhere when using it.

Cell antenna for RV's

Found this in a RV park. With the trucker ant. on top of a paint pole that extend's. Drill and tap for ant. to screw in & use spring clamps to attach to the flange of a slide out. This allows you to get some height over the top of RV. & better signal. Lowes has poles for $10 to $30 & clamps for $3 each. The best poles are yellow with a black plastic tip, these have thicker plastic for more threads.
