CB Install/driver power seat

I read before about tying into the drivers power seat for the CB- which then can be turned on without the ignition. I tried to do that and spliced into one of the orange/blue lines of one of the motors and got no power. Do you have to tap into the power at the drivers seat control switch to actually get the hot line.



I am not the greatest when it comes to electrical items, so I am willing to take any good instructions anyone can give me.

You only have to tap into the power line coming to the switch. Sounds like you got a line after the switch which means it would only work when you are adjusting the seat. I don't have a service manual with me, but find out what color the line supplying power to the switch is and tap into it and that should take care of your problem. Again, it doesn't have to be at the switch but it does have to be the correct line.

Thanks for the input. I still am not sure what I may be doing or not doing. I thought the power supply for the seats was the orange with the blue strip. Still did not get any juice. So I have not had the time since your email to try again. I had thought I had read a prior email in TDR that said you had to go to the actual controls by the drivers seat to tie into the power. Hope I am not confusing you or anyone else here. Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

It's probably easier just to go through the firewall to the battery. It is not a good idea to hook your CB to the same line as an electric motor anyway. By going directly to the battery with both your positive and ground, you reduce the chances of alternator interference by quite a large margin as well.
