cb mount for antenna

hey everyone i am looking for a good spot to mount an antenna for my truck. so i was looking to see what you guys might have done. if you have pics that would be great so i can see how it ended up. thanks in advance.

Where do you want to mount? What antenna? what radio? Running with boots on or off? All these need to be addressed. I run with boots on and like mine mounted on my BackRack. Other run stock and run in front of the cab and some on the bed. Name your application and your sure to get good answers.

Here is what I did, I have a tonneau cover but like my antenna on the back for looks and I'm not a big fan of mag mounts. I started with a piece of square tubing thats as wide as the front of the box and cut one side off it, I then drilled and tapped it. Then I bent a pice of 3/8 inch stainless tubing around and attached it to the square tubing. The square tubing goes over the front edge of the box and the tubing runs from it up and around the tonneau.

I had a request for some more pictures of my set-up so here they are, there are a few more in my readers rigs section under the CB Antenna. Since I took the picture I posted before I have made a new one that is polished up, now I just need to get some stainless screws to take care of the rust problem.



While your there looking at the pictures take a look at my shift lever, I think it's pretty cool, it's also made from stainless but the knob is aluminum amd cold in the winter.

I think these mounts are the cleanest I have ever seen and the most secure. But they're alot of work to put in but also worth it. Let me know what-cha think. I've got more pics in my readers rigs.

The CB antenna is just a 5. 5ft one I picked up at a truck stop that seems to work pretty well. The SWR on it could be a little better but I'll work on that in the near future. The 2m/440 is from NCG Co. They're the ones that make the Comet brand. The model I have is the SBB-7. Here's the web site

I'm sure you can find something that will work w/ 10m there. Don't rule out Radiall-Larsen as well. They're product is worth searching too.

That's the only bad thing about these mounts... I have no choice when it comes to a topper or cover. I CAN'T HAVE ONE!!! :{ Oh, well. I'm going to put a 5er in it soon enough.

I used a good magnetic mount on the roof and ran the cable in under the bottom edge of the rear center brake light. There is a thick foam seal that allows the cable to fit securely. Works great---no cutting and you dont even notice it. I gently pulled the interior panel out enough to route the cable around the back window without removing it.

Yup, these questions need answered first. It's okay to hide the antenna on the bed rail if your only looking for a mile or 2 on a stock radio. If you want to run a foot warmer and really get out, a roof mount (not magnet) or headache rack is the better mounting option. A magnet mount lacks in grounding, which is HUGE in Rx/Tx.
