Where are most people mounting there CB's and what type of mount are you using? Starting to make enough of these BOMBvoy's that the handheld with magnetic antennae is kind of a PITA. Are they still making the slide in/out mounts? Been a rash of burglaries in our neighborhood in the past couple months (I've interrupted 2, the wife 1) so I do not want to leave a radio in permanently.

Thanks!

Carl

I put mine in the center console along with a few other things . You can see a pic of it all in the members rig pic's under Wayno's Rig .

CB

My CB is mounted in the above head shelf i installed(Pic in readers rigs). It is out of the way and i can put alot of other stuff on it as well. As far as antenea's mine is mounted on my headache rack. But i also have a mount that you put in the stake holes in the sides of the bed. Then you just run your coax through the bottom of it. If you would like a pick let me know and i will post one.

Wayno,

Very nice rig!! Unfortunately, I have the solid bench seat + I have a 2 year old that would be crushed if his carseat would not fit in the "big" truck right next "papa"'s seat. He loves to see papa perform magic when he touches thegear shift lever and the orange O/D off light comes on.

JEB, I would like to see a pick. You can either post it or send it to me by e-mail here if it is too large.

Thanks , lots of hard work to keep it that way . Its got to the point I hate to drive it . Well I don't drive it in the rain anymore . I car pool to work every chance I can or I drive the motorcycle when I can but then again my job is only five miles away from the house .

I fabricated a bracket that is mounted just below the ashtray to hold the CB see (Pic in readers rigs). The only time that I use the CB is when I am going hunting.

Just out of curiosity,,,

Back "in the day" when I was well into the CB/11meter band stuff we ran various SSB transceivers equiped with variable oscilators to allow us to "slide" up and down within a given range on each freq.

We also had the old Palomar linear amps ranging from 50 W PEP to as much as 250 W PEP.

I eventually went to a Yaesu amature transceiver with full 2 meter to 120 meter (?) bands. It ran AM, FM, SSB.

It really rocked on the 11 meter band. . I'd run as much as 500 milliamps or more pumping out a full 250 Watts AM signal and 400 Watts PEP on SSB.

A real sweet setup. Heavy though, it was a tube driven setup and could dim the lights when I cranked it hard.

Over time I tweaked and tuned that FT 101-E added a phone patch, oscilliscope, freq generator, multi port high end SWR/RFW meter, and a 1KW Swan linear amp.

Later I moved up to a Drake 2KW linear amp. Man that was nasty...

So, what if any amps are being used now??? Anything similar? Are the two makers (Drake and Swan) still around???

Brings back fond memories of contacts with merchant vessels off the coast of S. Africa, Japan, Europe, and so many more QSL.

I ran a stacked dual 4 element horizontal and 2 phased 3 element verticals... . they were a real nasty job to tune properly and it took a long time to get them phased properly so SWR was low.

Al,

That is pretty much the type setup I was looking to see. I woo will only use the thing while hunting or during one of the BOMBvoys to various gatherings. Going up to PDR's Dyno event, we had over 30 trucks heading up together. It was something to see. :--)

I haven't seen a drake or swan or a siltronixs in years . The most populer one in my area is call'd a Texas Star and it is all transistor . The Palamors went away for a while but came back around . I haven't bought any in about eight years so I not sure whats out there anymore . There was a place out in California where you could mail order those things . As for a sliding up and down a few kz on a freak some of the CB's can be fine tune with a slider and a few switches and do that now or you can by a mobile 10 meter rig and get it jump and put it on 11 meters .
