OK I bumped my damn head today!

Looking at buying a CB for my 06'. I had the Cobra handheld in my 96'. While the theory behind the radio was great I hated using it. I'm not against Cobra just the handheld device. The mike was too big to use for conversations.

Any one have a favorite brand and model? Cobra? Midland? Uniden? Not sure if I'm going to use it enough to justify a Galaxy. Not even sure what makes a Galaxy so special. If possible, I'd like to have weather channels. I plan to have the radio tuned by a local shop.

My personal preference is a Cobra 29 or 148 GTL, however Uniden PC68's and PC78's are also very good radio's.

If you really want to save some $$$, then watch Ebay because cobra 29's & 148's go for much lower prices than you will pay for in a CB shop. Pick up a good used radio of Ebay for $50-75, take it to a local shop and get it modded and get a good antenna and you will have any awesome setup! ;) :D

First things first...

If you want a weatherband, get a weather radio... CB Radios operate at around 26-28 Mhz... Weatherband is over 120 or so. . Big difference. It takes away from what your CB Radios are capable of putting out. I personally have 2- Connex 3300's Both with Galaxy 88 Finals, Both dead keying 2 watts on low power, and swinging around 24 or so. When I switch it on high, it deadkeys around 7, and swings a little over 40 watts barefoot... My Cobra 29 Classic is set up good, and swings around 20 or so watts barefoot as well. I had a weatherband radio, and got rid of it a week later. You can get a Cobra 29, peaked and tuned, with talkback, and echo for around 180 or so... well worth the investment. . If anything, get talkback installed so you can tune your radio and be able to hear yourself. . Check out www.claysradioshop.com

Just thought I would post my 2 cents!!

Also, you may want to get a RK56 mic as well. . they will make the world of difference!!!

My favorite is my Magnum S-6, but won't be getting one of those for $150. ;) The others i have are Cobras. Some 25s and a couple 29s.

The one in the Ram is a 29 WX NW ST. Have a Cobra HGS500 external speaker (has talk-back) and a SuperStar DM-452 Echo microphone. Works really nice.

A Galaxy DX959 looks like it would be a nice radio. No personal experiance with them though.

The Cobra 29 WX NW ST is working for me. I mostly listen for good info such as weather and road conditions, where cops are, accidents and so on, I don't talk much. I also like the weather feature. I would like to get mine peaked and tweaked some time but the guy close to home I used to go to died so will have to find another option.

Was the handheld you had the one where the mic has all the buttons and you put the box under the seat? If you still got it, I've got a Cobra 29 Classic I would trade you. It's too big to put anywhere in my first gen.

Have you thought about mounting it on the celing? MMiller has his there, between the sun visors. Mine is hanging from a Shelf-it.

Mine is up there too. There is a picture of it part way down my mods page listed in the signature. The picture is of a different radio then is currently there.
