Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) CCD Data Bus

I have a 2001 truck with the HD Diesel and 6 speed. It has 32000 miles on it and since last July I lose the Compass Mini-Trip Computer with ccd displayed. This is intermittent. About 8 weeks ago I lost this as well as all my instrument Cluster Gauges and my Airbag Indicator and Malfunction Indicator Lamps illuninated. Where mileage is displayed was the words "no bus". This happened again two weeks ago and on both occasions the problem disapeared after about 10 minutes. I checked the codes and a P1698 was set. This all points to a CCD Bus Failure. Has anyone have any knoledge of this and how can I differentiate between a connector problem(corroded terminals) and an electonic failure such as the CCD chips in one of the control modules. As the problem is intermitent, I do not want to spend a diagnostic service fee to not resolve the problem and be informed on what I already know. Thanks for any help. Tom
