I have an 08 2500 slt 4x4 the perform sevice light came on when I checked in the owners manuel it says I need to replace the ccv filter element which i was told i can get thru Geno's what about the egr cooler cleaning and egr valve is there a service manuel that tells how to properly service them

Once you get the egr valve removed,Remove the 4 screws that hold the solenoid on paying attention to it's orientation. Do notb loose the shim. remove the Valve keepers just like you would on any cylinder head. Soak in the correct solution of EGR cleaner available at your local dealer. Once the carbon has begun to soften use a brush to finish the cleaning.

My dealer replaced my ccv filter today. I ordered the filter from Geno's about 3 months ago and got tires of the service light coming on. Now it is done. My truck has 48k on it.

Someone posted (here, dodgeforum, I don't remember where) that they were unhappy about the surprise $1000 service. So I'd wager it's about a grand.

If you own an 8mm (or was it 10?) socket, you can replace the CCV filter in about ten minutes.

Can someone point to me a thread as to where exactly the egr valve and cooler are located and the steps to remove them for cleaning? I have on order the CCV filter from Genos and I have seen a picture of the cooler in the TDR mag but don't readily see it on the engine.

Thanks guys!

Richard

Well I was reluctant to ask but seeing articles in the TDR on pretty simple and straight forward repairs and mods I thought that others also might find it useful, particularly when you jump from an '01 to a 6. 7 and I am not about to spend the big bucks on the workshop manual. These engines are very esoteric. For example, the oil-fill cap has to be screwed on until it clicks - same as the fuel cap or it will throw a code. If the oil level is over the full mark - same thing. Not all 15W40 is the same - must be CJ4 and last, it is important that the egr cooler be bled of air when topping off the rad.

Sorry if my question offends you, I'm just trying to learn more about my truck and how to take care of it.

No offense taken or meant

I just see many people get in over their

Head. It always cost more when a diyer

Tears it down and is unable to put it back

Together. any leaks in the system will trip

Codes and again add to your frustration

dam i'm happy i own a 12V,,LOL...

"i'm not spending big bucks on a shop manual??? their only like $100. 00,,,and should be the first thing you ever buy with a new truck,,,. . it's less than a tank of fuel,,,and will be worth it's weight in gold,,,do yourself a favor and get the OEM Dodge,,,more money,,but better than anything else out there,,forget those cheap Clymers and Haynes,,they're way to general,,,spend the money on the OEM and you'll be so glad you did,,

Hootguy - someone on this site had stated that the shop manuals are around $300 for these trucks. I have the manual for the '01 but it doesn't do me much good now! Hang on to your 12V!

I think one of the reasons the Dodge shop manual is expensive, is because it covers both gas and diesel. Yes, that is sort of a shame for those of us who own only diesels.

I bought my hard copy '08 version on eBay for $225, but I believe it might be cheaper if you buy a CD. However, considering my experience using online or CD/DVD services like ALLDATA, I find that with greasy hands etc it's much easier (and wife friendly) to thumb through a hard copy version. Of course those who work in a full time shop likely have a dedicated computer for such browsing.

BTW, I still have the receipt for my '91 shop manual, $45 back then, including the diesel supplement.
