Just recently had the 67K service to replace the CCV filter and clean the EGR valve and cooler assembly.

I had purchased the kit from Geno's garage and took it in to the dealer. Since then I have had to go back twice as I keep getting fumes in the cab that smell like the inside of a crankcase. Twice the mechanic has found the "EGR" tube had slipped off. After a few hundred miles, I am smelling that again and going in this week to get it resolved. SAG2 or anybody out there have a clue as to what is going on and what the mechanic is not doing right? Is this a common occurrence?

Appreciate some feedback.

If the tube he is talking about is the front crossover tube, and it is slipping off, he has screwed up the install. The tube itself has the flange along with a protruding guide the slides into the butterfly valve connection. The protrusion is an alignment guide. If the tube is not aligned correctly on both ends, it will not mate correctly to the butterfly and EGR. How do I know. I just finished doing mine. When it aligns, it mates perfectly. The butterfly valve end is the hard one because the butterfly valve is hard mounted when the tube is installed. The first time I did it, the butterfly end had the clamp on but would not seat when the clamp was tightened. I finally figured out the the alignment has to be done with the clamp off so you can see the mating flanges. The other end is loosely clamped to help hold it in place. Once aligned, the clamp has to be put on while the mating flanges are held in place. If the mating is not correct, the clamp will actually push the tube and gasket to slide out of alignment causing the joint to gap open. That's what sounds like is happening to yours. Also, he may have creased the gasket causing it to fail.
