I'm on the road and bought a book on cd but I can't get it loaded into the CD player. I have a Laramie longhorn with the large radio display and the CD player is in my armrest.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong? My manual is at home.

Anyway, I'm going to the media setting on the radio, scrolling till I see the disc option, I tap it and it says "insert disc." When I try to nothing happens. I see that there is power to the player because the blue lights are illuminated in the cd slot.

When I push the eject button on the player I can hear it make noise

Any guidance would be great, I know the radio is current on recalls, my truck was at he dealer last week and they took care of it. I don't know if the player was working before, because I've never used it.

Thanks in advance.

The player should accept a disc regardless of what the radio is set to. When you insert the disc it will automatically switch to CD. If I recall the label should be pointed towards the passenger seat. Are you inserting it correctly?

I have tried the label pointed in both directions. It acts like I'm not hitting the trip lever or sensor in the player itself to accept the disc.

Yeah, although I decided against the CD player in my new Ram, I have the same setup in my '14 Durango and you just put it in and it reads it (and switches to it), regardless of the radio setting.

You have to insert the cd quite a ways before it will grab it. It's pretty stiff sliding it in the slot. It will be 1/3 to 1/2 way in before the player will grab it.

I never got a CD player in my truck.:(
I didn't know they even put them in vehicles anymore.

I put put all my music on a flash drive (USB) and stick it in my USB drive in my consul. No more discs laying around to get scratched up.
Works great!

It was an option, but it's in the center console and takes a decent amount of space which is why I didn't check that box. Figured I play about zero CD's these days. Regretted getting it in my '14 Durango, but had to because it doubles as the DVD player for the rear entertainment system (which plays up front when stopped too). Though the Ram's center console is obviously much bigger due to the extra width so it's not as big of a space hog as my Durango. Literally cuts the space in half in the Durango. In a way wish they put it in the dash, or behind the EVIC screen, and have the EVIC screen lower to put the disk in like the MyGig radios used to... though it's probably a hidden blessing it doesn't as that would be more to go wrong.

Checked the dox for the wife, owned the truck almost 1 year. How many CD's played????? You guessed it ZERO!!!

Sorry OP no idea how to help you, just had to vent.

I have not, still on the road. I did stop by a dealer while I had a short layover, but they didn't have a service opening till the following week. There was a tech guy there and he took a quick look and said the player needed to be replaced. He thought that the sensor is bad and is not opening the debris door, therefore can't accept my disc. When I get home, I'll take it in and they can have it for s few days.

That is very interesting. I ordered the CD player in my Laramie, I now wonder if it was worth it?

Like I mentioned. Put all your music on your computer and then transfer to a USB drive. No more scratched, skipping discs to store.

Plug and play!

Don't over-react, w6pea. Just because there's one bad apple on a tree full of 10,000 apples does not mean the entire tree needs to be bulldozed down.

I was thinking of getting an MP3 Player, loading the CDs I want on it and using it.

Exactly, no need to buy an mp3 player.

I have one 32 gig SD card that has all my music (well, not all) and just leave it in the slot. I bought a portable cd player (like a "discman") to play older cd's (the ones I don't listen to enough to bother ripping) through the aux port, but I really don't use it much.
