Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) cel on no codes what gives?

like the title says my cel is on and i dont have any codes. what gives? what would throw the light but not a code. also its on most times i start but a couple times it wasnt. any ideas?

The ABS can set codes that cant be read with some low cost code readers.
