REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.

REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

... . YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time. . It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON . . It takes about 20 seconds.

Snopes isn't always accurate, but I sure hope they are this time. And I do remember some hub-bub on the news several months ago about legislation allowing cell phone numbers to be released. It's actually a relief if untrue! I get enough mystery sales calls on mine already. I have never seen this 'warning' before, though. guess we'll all find out...

I've been seeing that warning for 5-10 years. As long as callees pay for those calls (pay for incoming calls), it'll never happen. Were it true, I would cancel my cell phone and have no voice phone at all until I get my serverless/providerless VoIP working.

In a way, this is also yesterday's news. Cell phone numbers were 'published' to spammers and scammers years ago, so they would know which numbers *not* to call. Think about it. Their auto-dialing computers are stupid; if it looks like a valid phone number, it gets dialed. Those systems have to know the numbers they can safely dial and the one's they'd best stay away from.

I have one of those Net10 'terrorist phones' that is completely anonymous. No monthly bill ever. No home phone, address, or anything at all provided to Net10. Activated from a payphone. They have no idea who owns it. I like that.

I still get marketing calls and it p. o. 's me. Like you said, it must be just random dialers. Or homeland security. ;) :-laf

I went to the "National Do Not Call" web site about a year or two ago and listed my Mom's cell,my land line and my cell. That was the 2nd time I did it.

sorry to hijack. in finland and sweden (all numbers are public if you dont choose to make it hidden when you order your connection but then people cant find you if they need your number) on the other hand it doesent cost when somebody calls. . and on a pretty crappy day its nothing more fun than to **** of a telemarketing girls. . just be a perv by the time you ask what panties she have they will hung up :)

If it really happens then turn the tables on them and ask them personal questions as mentioned above.

SRath, I rarely get a telemarket call on my cell and my land line is unlisted. My Sister told me about the site years ago when they had a 6 year limit, they were supposed to change it to forever so I register again.

After you register if you get call just tell them your on the "do not call lsit".

This should be the site you want. National Do-Not-Call Registry The first link has the info about it but you have to go to this one to register. www.donotcall.gov
