Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Transmission slipping

Just had my center bearing on my 2 piece rear drive shaft replaced. The old one was shot. After traveling about 3 or 4 hundred miles on the new bearing, the slinger in front of the bearing started making noise. It is loose on the shaft and I can spin it with my finger. To tell the truth, I don't remember there even being a slinger installed before. The end of the driveshaft is belled out in the same shape as the slinger. Everything else seems ok. I duct taped the slinger so it would stop spinning and making a dang racket down there. Anyone ever had one of these apart and know if out rams are supposed to use the supplied slinger? I want to know what the problem is before I take it back to the shop that pressed it apart and back together. Thanks

It should fit tight on the shoulder just ahead of the bearing. If is has already spun loose, may as well just remove it. Don't think it will fit tight again. It is there to protect the bearing from rain, road debris, etc. May shorten the bearing life by not being there.

OK, So here's what I did. I bought a hose clamp and put it around the slinger and the driveshaft. No out of balance problems and no more noise.
