2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Center console

Is there a way to make the lock pin longer, on the center console cover lock?
I bought the extra cup holder, but now the cover won't lock.

Grab it with a pair of pliers and twist it a couple of turns doesn't take but a few

The stud screws in and out. If you have a set of stud sockets the 3/8" one works very nicely.
