Hi All:

i just installed a dss (darin's steering stabilizer) this past weekend and notice that the steering wheel is now slightly off. my understanding is that this can be corrected by adjusting the drag link, but i am uncertain as to how this is done. do i simply park the truck with the front wheels pointing straight ahead and start adjusting the drag link little by little until the steering wheel is lined up? or do i need to lift the truck taking the weight off the wheels? or am i barking up the wrong tree? finally, will adjusting the drag link affect my alignment? thanks, steve whalen

Adjusting the drag link will not throw your front end out of alignment. I don't remember which way the sleeve needs to be turned but it is not hard to figure out. If you know which way your steering needs to be adjusted, you can figure out whether the drag link needs to be lengthened or shortened and spin the adjuster accordingly. If it is on your truck, probably the easiest way to do it is spin it a few turns in one direction and see what happens when you test drive it then go from there.

The way I do it is to drive on a straight road to get a good idea of the exact location of the wheel then I will know I have parked with the wheels perfectly straight ahead. If I remember right turn the sleeve forward (top of sleeve) to make the steering wheel go right. If that's not right then just experiment, it's not hard.

Turning the coupler forward will turn your steering wheel to the right. One turn of the coupler will move the steering wheel nearly a quarter turn on a 3 turn steering box, a little less on a stock steering box. I drove my truck down a straight road after each adjustment to see if the wheel was in the right spot.
