My steering wheel points to about the 11:00 position and I would like to center it...

can you take the stock steering shaft off of the steering gear and rotate it or does it only go on one way?

I tied taking the steering wheel off and moving it there but the wheel only goes on one way.

And yes, I have an adjustable drag link but it is out of adjustment, and I only need a little more!!

What should I do

Dan,

On my 93 i can move the steering wheel around to any position 1 spline at a time, i would think yours should be the same... . Rick

Dan, Skyjacker makes a drop pitman arm for a 4" lift. The pn is DA20. This along with the adjustable drag link should return the steering wheel to the correct posistion.

Well guys,

I have the drop pitman arm and the adjustable draglink, but my draglink ran out of adjustment and I only need to go a little more.

I think the guy at the 4wd shop maybe sold me the wrong draglink.

It has been like this for a few months and I am getting tired of driving with the wheel cocked off to the side.

Oh yea, My steering wheel will only go on one way, because the cruise control wires go through a certain way and there is a sticker that says to only install it this way! Is my truck the only one like this? How would the dealer center the wheel if I took it in?

Use the tie rod adjusting sleeves to center the steering wheel, they are like a big turnbuckle, loosen both the right and left sides and turn one side to shorten it and the other side to lengthen it, turn both of them the same amount and the toe in doesnt change but the steering wheel position will, did it this way for years when I worked at an alignment shop.

Good Luck

I don't think that would work on our 1st gen trucks.

My dad put a leveling kit on his '01 Ram and said he did something to that effect to center his steering wheel, but on the 1st gen's our tie rod is one piece and only adjusts toe in (I think!)

The new style trucks have a different drag link and tie rod arrangement entirely. The old style trucks could only be centered by moving the wheel or installing an adjustable drag link. The wheel on my 93 also points slightly left, I haven't had a chance to dig into it yet so I don't know about the cruise control wires.

The drop pitman arm is keyed to the steering box output shaft. The pitman arm can be unkeyed by removing it and filing a groove in the middle of the key. Then it's possible to turn the pitman arm enough to strighten the steering wheel.
