Diesel + Hooters = Connecticut Hooter/Diesel Day

Scheid Diesel Event is coming up - Any Comments?

Shelby Griggs is coming over to my place on Saturday August 11 to put on a new exhaust system he won at the NW Jamboree. We thought it would be a chance for anyone who wanted to to get together. I know it is short notice but anyone is invited. If you would like to come over, I live in Redmond and just email me and I will give you directions. It should be interesting and fun.

Too bad it was the following Saturday... you could possibly draft your brother-in-law (Rob) to help with the installation (since he would be in the neighborhood anyway).

Good luck with your project. BTW, I hear Shelby's favorite carrier is UPS :D

UPS

UPS left my system along with two other similar sized boxes up the road about 1/2 mile. They told me they thought all 3 boxes were for the same address. Good thing I called Jardine to follow up. They gave me a tracking number and I discovered that the system had been delivered almost a week earlier, just not to me :(

1st time I have ever had this type of trouble with UPS.

Anyway looking forward to a good time Saturday.

Shelby

I would love to help! We will have a busy saturday up here tho. Next weekend, I will miss the Thunder in Spokane, but hopefully, I will get bunches of stuff done on my road.

Good Luck on the Jardine exhaust... IMO, it is the best sounding exhaust I have heard!

Hey guys,

Sorry I missed the get together. I just got around to checking my messages and E-mail today and just saw the notice:mad:

I would have been there for sure!

Hopefully there is another soon! Guess I need to go back to checking these things everyday!

Jardine is on, mostly

1st of all we had a good time, and that is what counts most. The 4" Jardine is on, all except the last piece of the tail pipe, and of course the SS tip which is back ordered.

Two hard parts; One was removing the stock system. Use a sawzall with a blade long enough to go all the way through. Got it off though via use of a manual (gasp) hacksaw. My less than a year old stock exhaust is sitting next to Jeff's horse corral. Two cuts, three pieces is all it took.

The other was the installation instructions along with some mods we found we needed.

IMHO Jardine needs a little better instructions :( A diagram of how the pieces layout would be very helpful. It wasn't intuitively obvious to us backyard hacks exactly which direction the hangers should be installed, and of course we each had to try them in each direction before deciding that maybe we had it right. Their instructions for the piece that goes over the rear axle have a typo error, which caused us some head scratching. Also on at least the newer trucks, you need to remove the rear most hanger from the frame rail and do some field engineering with the sawzall. Without sawing this bracket in half, the pipe rubs on the forward most snubber mount. This was reported by ACoyle a couple of weeks ago also.

I will need to get the final piece mandrel bent to clear my mud flaps on my bed and get the SS tip installed to complete the job. I am thinking of having the entire system welded too.

My observations are about the same as others. A little deeper rumble on ignition, and definitely gets your attention when you get on it, but at cruise speed 55-60 and 1600-1800 RPM's it is essentially non detectable in the cab. With the windows down any extra exhaust noise is drowned out by the wind noise, at least until a healthy application of the GO pedal.

Overall it is much quieter than we were thinking it would be for a straight through 4" hole. I think I am going to be happy, I think it is subtle enough that my wife will still ride with me :)

Taking out breaks, I think it took us about twice as long as the 2 hours others have reported.

Great food Jeff, thanks for loaning the use of your shop.

Shelby

PS: If anybody from Jardine is reading this, my comments are meant as constructive criticism, as I in no way want to slam you. That would be very ungrateful on my part, considering this was a prize and was 100% donated by Jardine. Thanks again Jerry.

Scott, I was wondering what happened. I saw you were inquiring about ditching the stock muffler the other day, so I thought you might have been interested in this project. Sorry we gave such short notice.

I will be passing though La Pine several times in the next couple of weeks, I will try to stop by and let you have a listen to my truck.

Shelby

Sure, Sure, rub it in ;)

That would be great. Stop in anytime, the coffee pot is always on and cooking!!!!!

Looking forward to hearing it. Have been thinking about pulling off the muffer system. Have that tax refund check coming in you know and it is burning a hole in my pocket!

:D

See you then, Scott

Hey Shelby or JAnderson,

About 3 weekends ago I was passing through and ended up staying the night in Redmond. As I was leaving Bend and headed to Redmond, I spotted a 2000-2001 Patriot Blue 4x4 long bed quad cab Cummins, and this guy had a dual exhaust exiting straight out the back. Looked good! Either of you know this guy?

Shelby,

The instructions is the biggest complaint with the Jardine system. Ever since I have been on TDR I have read a post like yours reguarding the instructions. Im not sure why they dont change them? Glad to see you got it on "mostly" anyway!

I had a good time with Shelby. Another little hint for everyone to have is "Have alot of extensions for a ratchet. You need at least 2ft of extensions to get the bolts off the flange that bolts to the turbo elbow. " After about 4 or 5 little extensions, we made it. It was like having a universal joint attached with all the give in the extensions. Probably helped us though. Also be prepared to put the truck on blocks. More room = easier work!! Had a great time and really like the sound.

MikeR

What you come to town and stay the night but dont call any of us. Whats up with that:D

Sorry! Wished I coulda. I was headed back from the mountains above Tahoe... no phones,no TV,and no computers. Didn't know I was going to be there, got late so we got a hotel. I did enjoy that little country bar in the south end of town.

MikeR,

That must have been Timbers South. We have about 6 of em around Bend and Redmond. Maybe next time you can get our numbers out of travel companion before you go and give us a buzz. Would be happy to meet you for a beer or 10. Could also save you a hotel room. More money, more bombing!:D

Ahh Timbers brings me a few good memories. One time when I was in Bend about a year ago I went up to hang out with a friend of mine but he had to work all day so I ended up at Timbers by Costco at about noon. Of corse by about 6pm I was feeling quite good and getting to know all the "locals". There was this "older than me" lady around 55 (Im 30). She was talking to me all day and buying me drinks lol I think I bought 1 round, she insisted. So my friends came about 7pm and stayed for awhile and then it was time for us to move on to another exicting place. So I said good bye to this gal and she said "wait, stay here Ill take you home later" I said no I got to go with my friends its been nice talking with you etc. So I get up to leave and she pulls on my arm and says in my ear "Ill pay you to stay with me tonight" LOL I almost SH%T. We got up and laughed all the way to the next lounge.
