Anyone into R/C Cars, Boats, Planes?

I am needing to trim a lot of trees and remove several trees. What brand of chain saw does everyone recommend? I don't want a cheap walmart type saw, but a good long lasting saw. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Let me tell 'ya. I purchased a STIHL (is that spelled right?) from the local power equipment dealer. The dealer-guy asked me what I was cutting and how etc. His reply was that a **NEW** STIHL was TOO good for me and promptly sold me a used 029 (I think is the model #) and told me that this saw will outlast me!!

So far so good. I heat w/wood by the way.

This question comes up once in a while.

I vote Stihl. My father had them, worked for a forestry company that ran them, and now I own two Stihls (I grew up on a tree farm). They make an awesome saw. I've tried Husquavarna, and killed them waaaay too easily (by kill I mean pieces falling off). I now have a little 210C and a MS440. I would buy them again in a second.

Really, I don't think you can go wrong between Husky, Jonsered, and Stihl. They're all great saws. The deciding factor may be what kind of a deal you can get. Husky has some pretty good sales most of the time.

all the loggers around here swear by husqevarna saws, only other substitute i have ever seen in the woods was stihl, both are good saws, the huskys cut fast fast fast, the stihls ain't far behind

I have a Stihl 029 "Farm Boss" (they still make that model) and have had it since the mid 90's. It still has the original spark plug, the original air filter, the original clutch and has worn out three bars and countless chains. I don't use it constantly, but when I use it, I use it HARD. It may sit for several months and always cranks on the 5th or 6th pull after sitting with skunky gas in it. My opinion: a new Husqvarna will out do a new Stihl, but as they age, the Husq. gets more tempermental, the Stihl never changes personality and is ALWAYS reliable. Both are good saws, but I think it is pretty hard to beat the all around reliabilty of a Stihl.

My Husky 350 has woked well over the last couple of years cutting mainly oak. I have also heard good things regarding Stihl, although never owned one.

Stihl 029 Farm Boss

Bought it a few years ago from a local dealer who only sells Snapper mowers and Stihl Chainsaws. He will neither sell nor service anything else. . He told me he was selling me more chainsaw than I would ever need and so far he has been right. . Second the 5 or 6 pulls even with skunky gas. . have worn out two bars and untold chains.

OK my local lumberyard is a stihl dealer, what models do you recommend?

To answer your question one would have to ask, what are you cutting and how much/often do you plan on using the saw?? If you plan on cutting cord wood and heating your house with 5-6 cord a year, or just putter around the yard with it would change the end of the spectrum you would be on. I own 5 Stihl products and they've treated me well.

Stihl 032AV

I've had a Stihl 032AV since 1982 I believe. It's been an excellent saw. Gone through about 3 bars, numerous chains and a couple of drive sprockets but it gets used. Only gripe I have is that the roller sprocket tipped bars I currently have seem to load up with chips worse. I usually service the saw myself after a couple of days of heavy cutting unless I clog the bar up. Just my 2 cents

I have about 50 big elm trees around the house that need constant trimming etc and have 30 acres of russian olive that I need to clear, along with numerous red cedar trees that I need to remove over the next couple of years.

For the cost, I think the Stihl 029 is hard to beat. I've used one at work to cut through railroad ties, trees that had a diameter twice the bar, "pruning", etc. That saw would sit for months just waiting to get used and always start. When my Homelite quits at home, I'll get a Stihl. BTW, the Homelite also sits with skunky gas for months at a time and fires up and cuts well... hmmm! :-laf

I agree with Brian. I like my Stihl 290 (new number for the 029) I have also had an 034 Stihl. When I worked in the woods with my cousin, I spent the day carrying around an 056 magnum or 064. Now that was a saw. :)

Edit: Both myself and my best friend burn wood as our primary heat, we cut togther usually total 20+ cord per year. He has the same saw.
