Has anyone done an engine upgrade (swap) from 2002 into a '98? What will I need to know? I may get the opportunity to upgrade from my tired 1998 1/2 engine to a healthy 2002 Cummins engine from a wreck.
Reason:- I have driven my engine over 1,164,000 kilometers (about 700,000 miles), and it has recently developed unhealthy rapping and knocking sounds, rough starting (probably uneven compression), and low oil pressure. A new injection pump and injectors did not help very much. It has always had prompt and proper maintenance, regular oil changes, etc. I know that it should have lasted longer, and many have, but not all engines are created equal. I need to decide whether to swap engines, or get a new short block.
Any suggestions?
