what are the chances of the vp44 failure when tapping the pump wire? i have my comp waiting to go on and want to tap the wire but just wondering the failure rate. i know there are many hooked up with no problems but wanted to know how many had them fail.

When you do hook it up just watch your fuel pressure guage so you don't suck your fuel pressure down to 0. Also might want to add a second pump.

98. 5 and 99 trucks are very likely to fail, the 00 and newer trucks are much more reliable pump wise. I have a 2000 and it was/is fine running over 25K with a comp box now, with a pusher pump and FP guage.

The VP 44's are great until they fail :( and they do fail. In the past couple of weeks I have personal knowledge of several failures, a '98. 5, 99, 2001 and 2002. Some didn't have the wire tapped but the 2002 did and warranty was denied by Dodge. The '98. 5 that quit was mine and left me in the passing lane of narrow blacktop road... . waiting for the Ford to catch back up .

Don't tap the pump wire when you can buy the Blue Chip pump cover and keep your warranty. I'm leaning toward a P7100, even though I have a new VP44 and a used VP on the shelf... ... ... ... ... ..... Larry
