Well, I have read what seems like 200 posts on the subject of getting bigger tires. I don't know if I'm better informed or more confused? I was interested in going to 17" rims with bigger tires but would like to keep them under the wells. Has anyone gone with the bigger rims? I am worried about: screwing up the abs, spedo adjustment and mpg computer console(can the dc dealer adjust to recalibrate these?), rubbing wells,... and so on. I know it's a lot to ask, but if anyone has gone the route of biger rims I would appreciate your assistance as I am going to buy today.

PS- I'm sick of seeing the little kids at the bus stop pointing and laughing!

I left my stock rims and went with 305 70 16 from goodyear. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! only threw my speedo off a very little. I figured why spend extra money for 17" rims and tires, Just get bigger tires Looks 1000% better Hope this helps

Mufasa, (a wonderful refrence to Austin Powers?) you will have a tough time finding adequate tires for the 17's. The load-range G tires that do fit ride like cement, and will scare you stupid in the rain.

mufasa, you didn't mention what year your truck was, but. . .

Going with 17" tires there is basically only ONE size available that will work and keep close to stock tire outside diameter--the 265/70/17" This is the EXACT same outside dimension of the 265/75/16" tires that come on the trucks now. Most of Les Schwab's light truck tires are available in load range C and D for this tire. Also, there are some Passenger rated 265/70/17" tires with a weight rating of 2750lbs per tire which is adequate if you don't haul a lot of weight like a slidein or large trailers. BFG's A/T KO, Kelley Safari, Bridgestone Duelers for example.

My biggest drawback is, I want to go with 285 tires to fill the wheelwells better but there is NO such thing as a 285 17" tire.

And I've thought of going 18" since there are a couple good 18" tires that match the circumference of the 265/75/16" tire, and that is a 285/60/18. There is a Chevy suburban around here with that size and they look very good! The tires available in that size are Pirrelli Scorpio Zero (epxensive), Bridgesone Dueller H/P, Proxxes, and Michelin pilot LTX. But 18" 8-lug wheels are rare and all over $500 apiece from what I've found #ad
