changed clutch ignition interlock switch

Changed switch on clutch pushrod that runs to clutch mastercylinder. It is an ignition interlock switch(push down on pedal to start truck). This didn't seem to solve my problem of having to mash the pedal down as hard as possible 2 or 3 times to get the starter to engage. The switch body bottoms out against another piece of formed plastic that rides around the plunger rod. Can this be shimmed? Has anyone experienced this before? any other adjustment in the system? i guess I should have clarified that on the last post. A piece of the barrel lock broke from being reefed on so hard trying to start the truck. (I thought originally the switch was the problem and pulled the whole thing apart) I checked out the switch and it still works fine. The only thing I replaced was the lock barrel.

what pedal do you mash down?

clutch or throttle? it sounds like a connection

problem and what your mashing is not important

but whe you do you are jaring or wiggling a

connection.

I had that problem also. I posted about it and received some good pictures on how to cut the wires and bypass that pushrod thing. It took 5 minutes to do. It's only a clutch safety device that you do not need. Rich

I had the same problem and finally solved it by by passing the interlock and installing a momentary-on push button switch in the cab. You still have the interlock as a safety device but not the problem of no-start due to a micro switch.



There is also a clutch relay under the hood if you want to try another step. Dodge can provide one for you for under $20.

I pulled the new clutch interlock safety switch out of the truck and shimmed it. I took a washer and cut a portion of it out to fit over the pushrod where it bottoms at the firewall. Used a little superbonder to hold the washer to the bottom of the switch. Switch works as it should now. Should have tried this before shelling out 105 bucks canadian for the switch.

How do you remove this switch from around the clutch master cylinder rod? and what is the P/N? might want to purchase a replacement before stocks run out!

part number for the switch is: 4428406





to remove it, the white plastic tab that slides over the slot in the switch must be removed first. then give the switch a gentle push sideways away from the rod. the switch should then pop off from around the rod. when switch is free, unplug wiring connection and your away. its really simple when you take a look at it. the tricky part when installing the new switch is to be sure and get the plunger part under the stepped shoulder on the pushrod. hope this helps!
