2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Changed gear box

Hey guys,

Well the front end is getting loose. Go figure! The steering wheel had about 8 inches of play side to side. Found that the gear box was where it was at. Thought about adjusting it but didn't have time or the right set up to do it. So I got one from kragen and changed it. I noticed the new box is really easy to turn. its like a go-kart. It has never been like this. I got the truck with 55 thousand on her and now she has 149,000. Maybe its the box I also think the steering dampner should be changed. Any Ideas? BTW I used Lucas (wanted Amsoil) fluid in it and no I was in a hurry and forgot to flush the system.

Mine did the same thing, so I changed the dampener. After doing so, I found there was nothing wrong with the dampener. The new one felt the same as the old one. Just different valving I guess. It is very unlikey the dampener is bad. I had about 180,000 on mine. You could never go wrong with a double dampener, but that would be for different reasons. Good luck

OK. Just switched out my Delphi steering box, on my 96 Ram, with 268,000 miles . Problems were rought steering with lots of play and clunking noises. Went with a new Borgeson Steering Box, also installed a BD Steering Box and Maxlink sway links. This truck drives better than new. Really a small investment for the great results.

The one I replaced is the Borgeson Replacement Steering Box PT3:Borg800112 - not the remanufactured Part#:Borg-800204. Cost $50. 00 more, but I think the cost was well worth it.
