Changed my oil for the first time

Just had my oil changed for the first time on my 2004. I used a fleetguard filter & delo 400. I noticed the the oil smell in the cab is twice as bad as before. Question ? Does anyone think it will be less smelly with more miles on it?? Some folks I talked to say it will be less noticeable with more miles on it,just curious coobie P. S. changed the oil at 2,500 miles

I thought only "Rosemella" smelled . If it is like Rotella the smell will lessen.

I am using rosmella and find it only smells for about the first 500 miles after an oil change. I have almost 15k on the truck and have done 4 oil changes it smelled after every one, but after a while it went away

Yeah, that's normal. I change my delo every 3K and get that smell every time. It doesn't last long though.

The after-oil-change smell always has me wondering if I got the filter & plug tight, or left the filler cap off. I tried a different brand than Rotella in hopes that I wouldn't get the smell, but it was still there.

I guess my "smeller" is off - in the past I have used both Rotella and Delo 400 - currently have settled on the Delo - and with the old '91, and the current '02 - never recall smelling oil fumes after a change... Of course, all that changes if I manage to get some over on the exhaust manifold...

Just changed mine for the first time with Delo 400. (after i finally got the filter off) The smell seemed quite a bit stronger. I lengthened the breather tube to the middle of the truck and will see if it helps.

These trucks seem to "smell" more than the 2 Nd gen trucks. I will see after I get delo into both- then I can compare properly.

I just had my first change last Friday at the local dealer, delo 400(3125 miles). I have LIFETIME oil and filter changes from the dealer! It smelled really bad when I pulled up to my mail box and rolled the window down. To me, it smelled like gear lube. Hmmm. Anyway, I was calling Chrysler anyway to talk about the 16 missing rubber plugs under the cab. First off, they called Lithia in Grants Pass and said they are to order them for me (yeah baby!) and then the very nice young lady said she would look into the oil smell and get back to me on Monday, 1/26/04. Now that I see that others have the smell, Im not too worried.
